Mr. Ken's Wild Ride in Gold Lake

Postby Ken » Tue Sep 06, 2005 8:12 pm

I went down this small creek/path in hopes of connecting with a road. I went down alone to check it out. Steve waited up top.

About midway down this steep hill, I went over a wheel size boulder and made a mental note this spot would be tough.

I was right. I came back up...tried to go right, with left wheels over it. It happened so fast...The ATV went STRAIGHT UP....and held pointing straight up! I fell on the ground...and being a steep hill and now finding myself on my ass about 3 feet from the rear of the Quad...The nose was at least 10 feet in the air....the visual in my mind is HOLY SHIT!

I was never in any "danger", as I was off to the side...but for a split moment...I sat there...staring up at my Quad...it looked like KING KONG on it's back wheels...exactly straight up and down.

Finally...Gravity won in a direction, backward. The Quad started to come over....I put my hand on it, to make sure it went away from me...it did.

It came down on the throttle part of my handle bars....and I hear Steve in the radio...That didn't sound good. As it was hitting, I used the momentum, to push it over on it's wheels...now sideways in this little gully...my bars bent...and my throttle hanging....but working.

Worried...I started it...it started right up.

After we got back...we were able to straighten out the bracket on the top...but the bars are still f'd up....new ones arrive Friday.

Overall....it took a beating and kept on ticking...

Old and outdated....ha.

I'm not replacing the steering column now, cause I have more riding to do....but I think I will off-season I will because that plate the bracket attaches to, has to be weakened. Though it still took Steve pulling up on his handle bar as hard as he could and me pushing down on my handle bar as hard as I could, to get the Pod straight.

BTW - It's almost the same length as my sled (over 10 ft.). and.... It doesn't list a weight. It's gotta be heavy.

Also no drive to the front wheels.
Would be a blast in the sand dunes.
Very pricey.
