I did. Didn't seem very big.
In '89 I happened to be living about 4 miles from the epicenter of the Loma Prieta quake. That was a fun one. My refrigerator opened up, dumped all the contents on my kitchen floor, then closed again. My TV did a perfect swan dive off its stand but was saved by the pillow I had left on the floor the night before. Power stayed on, but they still canceled the Giants/A's series game that night. I was bummed.

89....Burlingame. On my way to the game...watched the tree move opposite of the house, just 15 ft away.
Knew it was hard core, when I saw the water tower of the Amfac Hotel had fallen off the building.
Went to the rescheduled game 3....sang "San Francisco" with everyone else...pretty neat moment.

The last words spoken before a YouTube video is filmed: "Hold my beer, now watch this..."

You lucky dawg, you actually had tickets to the game! You must be connected.Ken wrote:89....Burlingame. On my way to the game...
I remember there wasn't any obvious/bad damage to Candlestick you could see on TV, so I kept yelling 'play fawking ball!' at Al Michaels who was suddenly Johnny-news-reporter-dude. Cleaning up the glass and multi-colored oozy mess on my kitchen floor, putting books/photos back on shelves, and all that other domestic stuff could wait. I was single then, of course.

89 I was in Moraga (just over the hill from Oakland). I had just come from a taping gig (I was a cameraman for the college TV station) at Moscone Center in the city. Left via BART and went through the underbay tunnel.
We felt it hard too. I was in my room on the 4th floor of the oldest dorm on campus sitting on my bed untiing my shoes when my knee started hitting me in the chin. Bizzare chit. I thought the building was coming down for sure.
We got so dam drunk that night and had fun with the aftershocks.

Scars are tatoos with better stories
in '89 we were in Sunnyvale - I tried to run down the hallway to get to the kids and kept getting slammed back and forth on the walls. Only thing damaged - or even moved - was an empty fish tank on the patio. The "whoa, this is big time" moment was getting a little TV going on battery and seeing the Bay Bridge section down and the fires in The City.
