HD Helmet Cam
In case anyone else has been noodling about building the ultimate helmet/rack cam system, here is an option for a full HD system.
Start with this Iconix cam, will only set you back about $11k:
http://www.iconixvideo.com/products.html
That is just for the cam and digital I/O box, there is no recorder. So to record, add one of these slick Flash XDR gadgets that should be shipping sometime this quarter (will only set you back $5k):

You'd be taking the HD-SDI output from the cam and feeding it into the HD-SDI input of this recorder. Since it records on CompactFlash cards, it should handle the bumps/vibrations of ATV riding just fine. Put the Iconix digital I/O box and this recorder in a Pelican case, and you're ready to ride.
Or if you mostly shoot DVCPRO HD format, or want an integrated monitor, consider replacing the Flash XDR with the Panasonic AJ-HPM100 (only $12k):

If you go with the Flash XDR, I don't think Final Cut Pro has a codec for the MPEG-2 format that is stored on the CompactFlash cards. Or at least not yet, anyway. But no worries. The Flash XDR can dump its contents via HD-SDI (same as it received from the Itronix). So you could always add one of these AJA Kona 3 capture cards to your Mac Pro (only about $2.5k):

With that in place, FCP v6 can capture via their new Apple ProRes 422 or Apple ProRes 422 HQ codec. This produces much better color density than the HDV format that most prosumer HD cams use, and only takes up about 5x more disk space than good ole SD MiniDV.
No, I won't be buying this setup any time soon. Unless I win the lottery, that is.

Helmet Cam
I use a Samsung SC-X210L helmet cam. It's about the size of a pack of cigaretts and fits in your shirt pocket or fender bag. It comes with an external lens that will mount to you helmet, bars, rack ect. Takes great pics & video. Set me back $300.00 complete. Got it on ebay. I use it for fishing and hunting also because it's so small and easy to use. If you go to Samsungs web site you can check it out. It's the best and most affordable helmet cam I have seen so far. I have it mounted on a monopod which is mounted on my front rack.
