Pond Skimming

Postby Ken » Tue May 09, 2006 5:46 pm

Ok....every April to end the ski season, the Auburn Ski Team holds their Spring Fling.

They literally, dig a huge trench...about 7 feet deep...line it with black plastic and fill it with water.

Then the kids...coaches and some adults...go to the bottom of the old Jump Hill...and take a run at it.

In the 3 years I've been watching...A few Nordic (Cross Country) skiers have given it a whirl....their skis are VERY SKINNY. In all the years...no one...not one....has ever made it.

At the end of the video....this guy, got the closest. But paid for it...

If you downloaded this video before 12:40PM on Wednesday....

Download it again. The coach (TK) who snags the shark in the video...sent me another video and I've added it to the clip...it came out great. More of a head on shot....you see the pain. :)

Because I didn't want to get hurt before the snowmobile races, so I could get hurt there. :)

looks like fun. I’m surprised the coach condones the cross country attempts. I guess they would have all summer to straighten any bones if necessary.

I wouldn't be surprised if that accident puts the kabosh on Nordic attempts from the top of the hill.

It could have been way worse...
