VERY awesome! I love color pix from that era, it brings life to the history you see that black and white just doesn't do.

The Pennsylvania RR ferry slips are interesting - because they look dilapidated even though the railroads were still in their heyday in the 1940's.

Thanks for posting the link!

Things have changed a bit since this photo.

I thought I would check it out! The statue is gone and it's a fountain in the middle, with trees - perhaps those that were young in the older picture.

And a little interesting history:

Cool!

I wonder when and why the statue was removed...that's pretty uncommon.

I agree - were it not for the fence and the curved building at right, I would have thought I was just at the wrong place.

NYC blows my mind for its timeframes - the fence is the the exact one built in 1771. The park is even older in history: Bowling Green is New York City’s oldest park. According to tradition, this spot served as the council ground for Native American tribes and was the site of the legendary sale of Manhattan to Peter Minuit in 1626. (from the City of New York)

The subway station dates to 1905 and that was one of several disruptions of the park. In 1976 the park was rebuilt, and that's apparently when the fountain was added and the statue - New York’s first mayor, Abraham De Peyster- was moved to Hanover Square.

Here's the subway station. You can see the curved building in the background.

Have you been to England? That...blows your mind. Streets and building that have been around for 400 years...
