Interesting array of comments and viewpoints these days. I think people want to see proof for various reasons. One viewpoint:

Drew M., a contributor at Ace of Spades, reacted to the (pretty dramatic) photo of the president and his senior staff with a groan: "I don't want to see pics of Obama watching, I wanna see what he was watching. . . . This narcissistic [administration] releases pics of administration figures, not bin Laden dead. It's not about you Mr. President."

Over at the Ace of Spades, he adds, "I want a nice high quality copy to use on my computer's desk top. Oh, he was shot in the chest too. You know the old rule . . . anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice."

I just saw CNN in the breakroom at the State Dept....Apparently the real photo is gruesome, but they think at some point they'll release one. Their major reason for not at this point, is causing muslims to get even more pissed off....not that they don't want to provide proof.

I tend to agree....releasing the photo right now....could just cause more anger. I guess the shot was over the eye...and blew off part of his skull.

I gotta say - somehow the thought of him realizing in his last minutes that the US military caught up with him is very satisfying. I doubt he really thought we would pop into Pakistan and nail him. Maybe he bought 10 years of time, but his organization is decimated. I'm sure that the decade and his last moment of life was far from the outcome he expected when he set out on all of this.

As another columnlst put it, "the terrorism may not be over, but at least my children and my children's children will not have to live life with OBL alive on this earth to cause any more grief."

I think they should release ALL of the unedited photos and video ASAP. There will be tons of people in the Muslim nations and even some here in the US who won't believe that Bin Laden is actually dead until they see those photos. The longer Obama waits, the less believable they will be to some ('needed more time to photoshop and fake the pictures'). The radical Muslims will get angry and riot and kill a few non-Muslims no matter when he releases them, so we just as well do it now.

We also need to send a message to the world and those who may be on the fence and thinking about becoming jihadists: if you do it, we will hunt you down to the ends of the earth and you'll surely end up looking like ole Bin. You better be damned sure that those 72 virgins await you, because you can be damned sure we'll be sending you to find out.

I don't think we need the photo's or video. The more we beat this issue the more we keep OBL in the spotlight and give him undeserved attention. For some people there will never be enough proof he is dead. The terrosist know he is dead and will now try to replace him. I think the message was crystal clear deliverd by US Navy Seals, "If we can find you, we will kill". Let's not lower ourselves to the level of a third world country showing videos of corpes being dragged through the streets or decapitating hostages. I say take the high road and let your own imagination fill in the blanks. I like my own mental video off the bastard's last momments on earth facing our Seal Team.

Best thing I heard today is that there's an effect called "scattering" going on - the gov't is reporting that they are seeing people that they track dump their cellphones and are scattering all over the place (sort of like cockroaches in the light I think!) Regardless of anything else, taking off the head - albeit spiritual - is having a huge effect where I'm sure nobody feels safe. That will unravel things even further as the organization continues to fall apart.
