Tahoe Man Cleared In Fatal Shooting Of Bear

TAHOE CITY, Calif. (AP) — Wildlife officials have cleared a Lake Tahoe man in the Nov. 20 fatal shooting of a black bear inside his restaurant.

California Department of Fish and Game biologist supervisor Jason Holley says William Hunter acted in self-defense when he shot and killed a 500-pound bear inside Bacchi’s Inn Restaurant in Tahoe City.

Hunter encountered the bruin sleeping on the floor of the dining room and shouted to drive him off the premises. The Sierra Sun of Truckee reports Hunter shot and killed the bear with a shotgun after the animal became aggressive and charged him.

Holley says Hunter had installed electric bear wires around windows and doors of the property, and the investigating officer reported nothing improper about the restaurant’s trash storage.

that is just freakin off the wall why don't they put themself in his shoes.
i would never blame any one for killing somthing that was gonna attack them i have killed coutless rattle snakes
is my fault i came acrossed rattle snakes maybe but if comes down to my safty or any ones for that matter

i know why it is a big deal he didn't pay the fees to hunt a bear if he paid the fees witch are nuts i belive in alaska it is like 1500buck for a bear tag. to hunt them

so what i get it from it is as long as you pay to kill it go for it.
if not it is animal cruelty lol...

"sleeping on the floor of the dining room' - this bear must have thought he found the best hibernation cave ever! Food, warm, probably a juke box, maybe karaoke....

The bears around Tahoe City and West Shore...have gotten VERY aggressive. They will come right into your house now.

lol Dave.

The sad part is...this 70+ year old restuarant will probably go out of business....The fucking lovers of everything "cuddly", will boycott this Tahoe institution for killing the "innocent" bear.
