random video editing quesiton

so i have a verly large video file that i want to make smaller in size but not neccesarily lower quality right now it takes up the whole screen and i want to size it down to youtube size. with out cropping it. does any one know how to do this? i have a PC and is a .avi file thanks guys.

If you have XP, just use Movie Maker.
The last words spoken before a YouTube video is filmed: "Hold my beer, now watch this..."

I've used Windows Media Encoder to do some of mine.
