Is it strange that........

Postby FishaHallic » Tue May 06, 2008 9:04 am

The mpg on my truck seem to be going up? I have a 2003 Ford supercrew with a 5.4 liter engine with 56000 miles and my mileage has gone from around 12-13 to 15-16mpg ? Now, 3 speeding tickets in the last 5 yrs has slowed me down but still it's hard to believe my mileage would go up that much.

I am not complaining mind you, this may help me hold on to the truck for several more years but it just seems strange.

Going faster the 70...will really kill mileage...especially in a truck.

The difference in my Hemi between 80 and 65 was a solid 3-4 MPG.

Could be that it's 'broken in' now too. It takes a good 25-50K miles for the new motors to loosen up and fully break in. Maybe you have reached that point. Of course, it's all downhill from here.

Just make sure you do regular oil changes - or in your case, HAVE the oil changed regularly.

It must be a little of both, like when I went over to California a few weeks ago I set the cruise at 4mph over the speed limit and kept it there. I have also been very careful around town about speeding since that is where I get caught the most  .

And I do take my truck in for the oil changes :finger: :D

dave it sure looks like your driving habits have changed as well as the milage. its a fact driving 65mph will get you 3 to 5 mpg more vs 75 mph.
just keep driving the speed limit.

and its ok to go get your oil changed every 3 months regardless of miles.
