Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 Tires.

Postby Ghost Rider » Sat Nov 20, 2010 9:28 pm

Over a week ago i placed an order for a set of maxxis bighorn tires, after a week of not hearing anything from the company i called them, they told me the tires were on back order. It would have been nice if there web site would have said the tires were on back order, other sites tell you this. So i was told the tires wouldn`t be in until next month, so today i sent them an email telling them to cancel the order.

I found a set of maxxis bighorn 2.0 tires and bought them instead, the first order was 388.00 dollars, the bighorn 2.0`s were 410.00 and they will be here in 5-8 days.

Does anyone know how much lighter the bighorn 2.0`s are compared to the regular bighorns ?, i can`t find any info on that.

Thanks for the info, i actually looked on maxxis web site and couldn`t find this info. The only thing i don`t understand is, if the Bighorn 2.0 is supposed to be lighter than the regular Bighorns, how come the 26x11-14 Bighorn 2.0 is heavier than the standard Bighorn of the same size ?.

I found the details by clicking the Specifications tab - it wasn't terribly obvious though, I poked around quite a bit because you made me curious.

Not sure why the one tire looks heavier - that's odd. I rechecked their site in case I made an error in pasting the details, but that's what it says!

If I get the math correct, the difference in four tires is not a whole lot for me - 7.8 pounds difference in all 4 tires if I compare my conventional 26" Bighorns to the 2.0 version. The difference is more - 12.6 lbs - if I compare my smaller 25" tires. This is assuming their web site is correct!

The big difference for me of course is going from 25s to 26s - it feels a lot heaver. But I use that Grizzly for snowplowing on occasion and they sure "float" a lot better on snow!

I'm curious the durability of the 2.0. That was the main selling point of the original, was the near bulletproof sidewall....especially when rock crawling.

I would think the wear would be the same as the regular bighorns, but i don`t do any rock crawling, just trail riding.

GR,
You should have had these by now.. have you got them mounted up and have your ridden on them? How about some pics??

I'll likely have a set this time next year. My stock PXT's are doing fine and have tons of tread. So baring a torn side wall or some such, it will be a while for mine. I would like to see a pic of them on yours.

Ken, I have a buddy that runs an ATV magazine site and did a comparison of the Bighorns and the 2.0 version. He stated the 2.0 were not nearly as durable and he has had three flats in 1000mi where the origionals have not had a flat in over 2000mi.

I got the tires over a month ago, just as winter hit, they close the trails here in the winter so the sleds can use them. I havn`t been out for a ride yet with the new tires.

Ah..I can see how they saved weight... less lugs. That will have advantages and disadvantages...but they all do.
