Tires for std Alu rims to my Polaris

Postby mattedd » Fri Oct 26, 2007 7:16 am

Hi all.

Seems like you all here have a pretty good experience of different tires.
Right now I’m running on stock tires but would like to have 26". What dimensions do you recommend to put on my standard alu rims on my Polaris 800 X2?

I don’t want any mud tires, just normal tires. The places I ride have roughly the same terrain as yours, maybe not as rocky.

Sheers and thanks for a great forum.

Yeah if you got the ITP 489's stock these will cut very easy.
I would go for the Maxxis bighorns. 26x9x12 front 26x12x12 rear
Everyone that has them love them. The bighorns run large 26" will be like 27" or 26 3/4" tall

Is there any drawback with going to a bigger size than standard?

Not with the 800 but with a 500 you would see a little loss of power.
On the plus side you will get a little more clearance.

not on the 800. It's got the best clutch of them all.

I think you will loose some performance..........

I lost some performance on my brute force 750 when I went to the larger tire, I have mudlite xtr's and with the after market wheels it's a pretty heavy set up. the quad handels much better with this set up and I am happy with the tire. I think if these tires ever wear out I will pu some 25 inch bighorns, it's hard to resist going to a larger tire.....they sure look cool.
