Go Bigger?
Friend wants to swap his stock 25in tires for 27in MudLites on his 04 700. Is it going to suffer in the power dept? Does anyone think some mild clutchwork may be needed.

Should be OK
Can you sell him in the 06 primary and all would be great or even a heelclicker.
If he goes for one of those "big foot kits" he will lose top end for sure. ( different Helix in the secondary limits full shift out as stock was)
He will lose top end trying to push the 27's on flat ground. Down hill he might get more top speed out of it.
When he uses the fill stroke of the front end he will have a little fender rub. No troubles but it will rub.
He will need to use low alot more.
In 04 to 05, Polaris went to 26" tires and no change to the clutching or gearing at all. So in the big of all things he will only go up one inch above a stock 05.
And bla bla bla ...

After sleeping on it.
Easy way to help would be go up one weight on the primary spring. Aprox $20 to 24 US
Or do like Chadd does and go down one weight on the primary weights but being a 04 with some time on it you will need to get new weight pins and lock nuts.
This will just increase to ingagement rpm a little so the motor is in a higher HP range when the clutch shifts.
Just let me know and I can help with the spring EPI or even polaris.

If he goes for the heelclicker he or she needs to sign up to http://atvquadsquad.com/eve/ubb.x?cdra=Y&s=7706027254BearCat wrote:Thx Bill...Maybe try and talk him into a Heelclicker. He doesn't seem to think it'll be to bad, time will tell I'm sure.

i went from 25s to 27s without changing anything else. couldn't tell any difference in power. i tried a primary spring swap (from stock to EPI pink) that raised engagement (or added stall). i did not like the added stall at all. it made it much more difficult to creep up an obstical or across an off camber rock. one day later, i put the stock spring back in it.
you can add a higher strength secondary spring to add a little more to the low end without messing with the clutch stall. this will knock some top speed off the top tho. i installed the EPI black secondary and am happy with this one.
but i'd try it without mods first, then work on it if you feel the need.
