i just replaced crank piston rings cam timing chain and tensioner. if i adjust the idle screw just right the tap goes away until i give it gas. timing dead on valve clearence to spec. i'm lost i've been playing with this engine since i bought it in 02 never had it kick my a$$ like this. i'm getting my sp 800 this weekend and selling the warrior but i don't wont to sell something i'm not sure about.

I hear you.

I'd love to hear Chadd, Bill or Jack's theory....Obviously, my first thought was the piston tapping the top.

Are you saying if you turn up the idle the knock or tap goes away?
When you give it the gas the tap or knock comes back?
I know its not apples to apples but on my 500 if the idle is to low I get a small chirping and slight tapping sound. It gets in to the compression release that is for easier starting.(zero to low RPMs)
