New Style Polaris Clutches.

Postby MrBill » Mon May 22, 2006 6:42 am

Just got my new clutches installed.
They have a smaller starting diameter on the drive clutch along with a smooth one-way bearing on the drive clutch.(lower starting gear or range)
This runs so good I don't think I will do my Heel clicker clutch kit.
I would have to take the spider apart and add a shim to fit my kit.(something I don't have tools for)
I like the new belt it is like the 700's with ribs on the inside and outside for cooling.
For $390.00 OTD I could do this every two years. All the tooling for overhauling will add up to about $600 or maybe $700 if you want complete Polaris(SPX) clutch tools.
Polaris is getting there shit together on stock clutches. Took some years but I can get the front wheels off the ground with out pulling up.

So you like the low end start? How 'bout in LOW?

So all the clutch parts were $390? or the tools you bought? And why would you need to do this every 2 years?

How many did you buy?

1. Not a giant change in off the line but you can tell.
2. Low range is where I see the biggest difference.
2. $390 for all the parts. Parts= P/N 2875793 500HO EBS clutch assembly.
Drive clutch, Driven clutch, and Belt. This is for the 06 500HO sportsman that comes with out EBS List price is about $470.00 Chadd told me he would get me one for $380 so I went to my local dealer and he matched plus $10. ($10 vs. drive to Chico and Gas at 3 something.)
3. Tools I made my own drive clutch removal tool easy. That is all I needed
4. 2 years. I not sure but all the bushings in my old clutches were or are shot with 3300 miles. Perhaps the fact that Heel clicker weights are heaver and this may have add to the wear or 3300 miles are about right with the Rock crawling and trail ridding I do.

Yeah...I'm only considering the 800 upgrade on the 700.

I'll do some part number checking and you might only have to get what I got and just change out the springs and weights from the 500 set-up and install yours.

* The thing to remember guys is this is a balanced clutch that spins at one to one with the motor. Everything needs to be marked and double checked before doing any clutch work. Torques need to be followed and light lock-tite needs to be used.
My rev. limiter is at 6600RPM
And this baby has about 6 to 7 pounds of mass. (just one of the clutches)We don't want any trouble like a clutch flying off.
Clutch alignment needs to be checked and shims if needed.
Oh yea never take your clutches apart, alway take to a Polaris shop.

Yes and no.
2004 clutch was a dog. Clutch cover was aways hot (belt slip).
Heel clicker installed. No more hot clutch cover and fast off the line.
Clutch cover not even hot after hard rock crawling.
Both clutches worn out at 3000 miles? Heel clicker weights are much heaver and takes a heaver spring in rear. This could be why or 3000 miles of trail and rock is enough for a clutch.
Now new clutches just like the 06, 800 but weights and spring are as stock for 500HO. Drive clutch new style. Driven clutch is just like 2004 stock.
Quicker off the line than stock but not as quick as the heel clicker, but good for a 800 pound 500cc.(I would like to leave it way and see if I get more than 3000 miles)
Cover does not seem to be getting hot, but need to test on the rocks.
If I want I can do the heel clicker to the new one but I would need to get the drive clutch shimmed out .058" to get the belt clearance right.
Will report after rock tests.
