New XP 14 inch Rims

Postby Ken » Tue Aug 19, 2008 1:00 pm

I just watched a Polaris segment on Fisher ATV on Versus...

Bad news, in my opinion on the 14" rims. The Product Manager said "The new larger 14" rim allowed us to amp up the size of the brakes for maximum braking." Doesn't sound like 12" rims will fit with the new larger brakes.

An interesting side note:

- This year, Polaris is celebrating the sale of the 1,000,000th Sportsman ATV. Pretty impressive

will have to run the gorilla axles then put bigger tires on it to make up for the larger rim.

Yep, how many other manufacturers are even CLOSE to a million??

I dunno man, how big are the current brakes? How much bigger do you really need? I guess with 70 HP on tap, they're expecting people to be doing 90 MPH on these things or something.

Leave it to Scott, he'll be rollin on on 35's thru the Box.

I also understand there is an issue as to where the tie rod attaches to the wheel assembly that requires a larger wheel. 14 in wheels for 26 in tires only gives you 2 options that I could find, (one Goodyear and one Carlisle) Both are pretty docile tires that are made for Polaris. Need to start lobbing ITP and Maxxis to make some Mud lites and Big Horns in that size. It will take a couple of years before all the design bugs are worked out in the machine anyway.

They make 26" Big Horns for a 14" rim. You obviously have never seen Nick D's bling!

No, I think I would have remembered seeing that. Didn't see that tire size for them in Rocky Mountain, but I stand corrected.

I was thinking 27 or 28 inch tires.

Especially 1 model! That wasn't 1 million ATV's...that was 1 Million Sportsman's.

I guarantee Honda hasn't sold 1 million of the vaunted Rincon.

You're going to have to go much bigger than 26". Look at this picture...the profile is so low! You have eliminated a significant amount of tire sidewall flex. Low profile tires are killer for turns and handling...but last time I checked, ATV's were for ROCKS.

If you have 26" on 12" rims...you're going to need 28" tires on 14" rims to get the same sidewall.
