Polaris oils, is there anything else????

Postby GPER » Fri Oct 19, 2007 8:23 pm

First off I would like to thank Ken for directing me here. I have a Polaris Ranger 6x6 that I'm trying to bring back from the dead. The only Polaris dealers are over an hour away and the on line manuals just give part numbers for the gear oils.

3. Transmission Polaris AGL Gearcase
Lubricant (PN 2873602)
Add lube to bottom of fill plug threads.
Change annually. Change more often if
used in severe conditions.

4. Front Gearcase Polaris Demand Drive Hub
Fluid (PN 2871654)
Drain completely. Add lube to
specified quantity. Change annually***

5. Middle Gearcase ATV Angle Drive Fluid
(PN 2871653)
Drain completely. Add lube to
specified quantity. Semi-annually**

About all that I have been able to find out is that Polaris uses synthetic oils which is ok with me. I would like to know if I can use any synthetic oils, what weights in the differentials and gear boxes????? Or is the oil a special blend that has to be used.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I just realized...Bill is riding this weekend. Wait till Monday...and he'll chime in. I know you're probably anxious.

I have plenty to do on it so I can wait, I got the front wheels welded up where they were broke out around the lugs. The one hub has bolts in it so the next question is does the auto parts carry whatever size they are?????

Sorry these are the only oils I would use in these three locations. I heard that Polaris has some specal addatives in there oil for these locations. Read about ATF working for the front hubs but I don't know about that.
The middle gear case has a chain in it and most defanetly needs Polaris oil.
The Motor thats a differnt story any good Synthetic 0-50 oil and a good filter no Fram. Wix is good about two bucks less than Polaris.

Are you talking about item number 25 Image
If so you can take out item 14 out of the batt. box for a sample to take to the parts house.

Thanks on the reply about the oil, that was what I was wondering. Looks like I'll be making another run to the dealer.

It was the tire rim that the holes were broke out on and bolt for the wheel studs number 15. I did get 4 of the tires and rims fixed and the rims painted, two more to do.

I did notice the the plug in the hub was a magnetic drain hole someone has put a grease zert in there so I guessing that isn't good.

Thanks for the help.

hey guys/gals just joined up-been reading and looking at pics for about a month then saw the forum. great site.

as for the AGL gearcase lube you can use Amsoil synthetic chaincase lube and pay less than $14 vs the super high dollar Polaris stuff. as for the diffs id use the polaris brand.
