07 X2 800 EFI ???

Postby rangertom » Mon Sep 11, 2006 11:08 am

Hey Anyone w/the answers!

Congrats on your new venture! I'm real happy for yah...only bummed for selfish reasons. Who will be the goto guy for questions about new machines?

Anyway...If you wouldn't mind, I'd like to pick your brain about the 07 X2 800.

1st Q: Is there any plan to make any of these in camo?
2nd Q: If you've looked at the tire/rim sizes on this machine...is it right on the website? 25x10x11 for the rears seems odd to me...
3rd Q: If this tire size is right, is there some mechanical reason?
4th Q: Due to website problems, I haven't been able to tell if the X2 800 is dual-exhaust...is it?

Being a, or having-been, a polaris dealer, I figured you might know, especially being the most knowledgeable dealer I've ever heard of!

Thanks,

Tom

Bravo! Track that shipment.

I think Chadd's life is in limbo right now. He's moved up or is moving...I don't think he's found a place to live, and he's assuming control of his dealership...Friday or Sat....which is why he may only come for a 1/2 day to Terry's ride.

Ken,

I'd sure like to hear your take on the 07 X2...Do you know anything about them, other than what's on the polaris website?

1. ?
2.& 3. I know the 06 500 X2 is 12" rims in the rear. Polaris told me 25" is to keep the center of gravity down a little.
4. The 800 will have dual, on the web page this is a 500 with a 800 sticker.

That's understandable and makes sense...thanks Bill! However, do you suppose the 10" rim posted on the website is just a typo?

almost forgot, Bill...I just received my "Polaris" front box last night...took 5 minutes to put together and 20 seconds install! That's well designed, eh?

AND, the shipment I'm currently tracking is the matching rear box. Does the rear box affix the same way the front box does?

Honestly...I've never thought about 2 ups at all. I've rolled mine on my own too many times to even think about inflicting that risk on anyone else...

so I have 2 700's....

Camo will come in time I'm sure.. New models get the most popular colors.. ie red and black.. The 800 x2 i saw did not have the dual exhaust.. Polaris claims they have issues fitting it with the box. even the 800 sportsman does not have dual exhaust.. Only the Deluxe model 800 does. Polaris engineer once told me the daul exhaust was no perfomance gain only looks... and they also said 25" tires are for lower center of gravity..

Thanks fellas! Tell me something though, Ken... you noticed Chadd wrote:
"the polaris engineer told him there was not performance gain" why didn't he put his own two cents in there? I just can't imagine having twice the exhaust flow wouldn't increase performance. It just defies physics and reason! Unless, the airflow was "engineered" to provide the same flow as the single exhaust.

Chadd, did the 800 X2 you viewed have a 12" rim or 10" on the rear?

The only thing I can surmise, that the muffler themselves have more influence over HP, than splitting the pipes into 2.

Due to noise, the stock mufflers are pretty restrictive, compared to the aftermarket stuff.

I would bet (just a guess) that you'd get more HP boost by replacing a single stock muffler with an high performance after market (but pay for it with noise), than you could by splitting into 2 and still using 2 stock mufflers.

Dusty just put on Edelbrock exhaust on his truck....done by the factory as a test unit....and the exhaust change was 4% improvement in HP and 5% in torque.

Not exactly earth shattering....

I agree...not even worth the effort, but a difference! Your example amplifies my point. If your buddy remapped his EFI, he'd have a much greater HP and torque gain, especially having already opened up the the breather! Let's not forget, when opening up one side...the front (intake) needs to be opened up as well. Do you think this wiz engineer was doing anything but making excuses for not including a dual exhaust? I highly doubt a bigger intake port on the 800 deluxe than the 800 standard exists.

Tom ..Have you looked at the arrangement of the exhaust on the 800? Its not a "true dual exhaust" set-up...The muffler on the left side of the bike is really doing nothing more than look good. It may help a tiny bit then again it may even hurt performance. I dont think the single would be any worse than the dual. I would think that a properly tuned(or timed) single exhaust set-up designed for that machine would flow much better than the stock "dual" set-up.
