Ken's new rollcage

Postby Stoffregen M-sports » Tue Nov 29, 2011 8:47 am

Hi guys. I'm building a new cage for Ken's RZR and I figured this would be a good place to post pics of the process.

Pics coming soon!

Starting the build. Take good measurements from a solid baseline. In this case I took the tires off and set the whole machine on a rolling cart to keep it firm. Ken wanted to lower the roof a bit so that is the plan. The problem is making sure he has enough headroom with his helmet on. He's having me mount up a speaker system that might get in the way. He's coming over Saturday for a fitting.

Here's a couple of pics.

Progress report: it's coming along nicely. I've got the main cage section mostly done (bent, cut and tacked).

I used the stock ends for the main forward downbar because they interface better than the new ends.
Here's what's left of the stock cage after cutting the pieces off.

Image

Here's a sneak peek of the main section. Jesse James (the builder) said once "it's easy to build one side of a gas tank..."
And it looks taller than it really is. It is actually 2 inches shorter than stock.

I know. I work slow. I'm also "Daddy-day-care" so I only really get to work 3.5 days a week.

Here's a couple more pics. I will have it done this week, so you guys can start lobbying Ken to go wheeling.

We changed the main hoop diagonals to a upside down "V" instead of the one diagonal.

Tying in the rear "bumper".

Mostly complete. The bars in the roof area are for Ken's sound system. I made them out of 1" x .120" DOM for space savings.
