The GPS is basically worthless until you do get it. Ask Larry.

Yep, without some sort of software you have nothing. The Magellan base map of NoCal shows I-5 and I-80, and all the towns are just dots with names. Everything else is just a white background. If you've seen Ken's tracks and maps he's made with the Topo 3D then you can see the difference a good base map makes. There are some other options, but for the price and compatability the Topo 3D is the best choice for you Magellan

I'll bet it's like the GPS on the Honda blank screen with just a line of where you've been.

Yep, just a line on a white screen. Ken sent me his old tracks and they just look like a jagged circle in a snow storm

Larry got some bad news today :( , from Magellan via email;

"I have checked with the repair center and the reason that your discs have not been shipped yet is because they are back ordered on the discs. They have told us that it would be 2 weeks till we receive the software."

On January 18th I specifically asked when it would be shipped, because two weeks earlier I was told they were still trying to sort out the problem. At that time I was told;

"My supervisor has informed me that the software is now available and it should work on your computer. We are going to ship one of the new ones to you"

Unbelievable, the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing :x

I got an email yesterday and was told that they were sending me a DVD in place of the CD's. I was emailed an unlock code and told I'd be sent tracking information when it was sent, nothing more than that yet. For those of you using this and have to use your Disc 3 to operate, I found a patch that let's it run from the hard drive, so you don't have to always have disc 3.

I finally have this resolved :D . I got the DVD last week and almost lost it. UPS left it on the porch, my wife came home and let the dog out. 18 month old Labs love to chew...she found the package and opened it for me, stopping just before chewing through the DVD. That would have been fun to explain to Magellan....I swear, my dog ate it.

I spent most of the day building regions, uploading to the GPS and exploring the software. It's a blast to find a road or area you know, turn on the 3D, then drive up it through the hills and check out the views. Not as dramatic as the real thing, but considering that it's software it's pretty awesome stuff.
