Magellan Explorist XL, Great GPS, Terrible Customer Support

What did you buy? Spill it! Was it good? Suck?

Ken and I noticed that the latest version of the Topo 3D seems to have dropped some of the 4x4 roads that previous versions had. It's almost like there is a layer missing from the map. Ken sent me a handful of his tracks/routes and I've been able to convert and load them into the GPS. Great help as I lost everything I had changing from the Garmin to the Magellan :D

Not that I would.....but it won't work.

Larry and I already tried it, since he had the CD's coming anyway...but it won't validate the burned CD when it runs.

Don't spend 150 bucks at Magellan.....I bought mine on Ebay, in a wrapped copy for about 90 bucks...maybe 80...I forget.

They have a pretty unusual way they register and secure the software. I had to log in at Magellan, then provide the serial number of the gps that it was for. I tried sending a map to another SD card and it asked me to place it in the GPS to validate, wouldn't accept it. On the 3 CD set you can't run the program unless you have the #3 CD in the computer, so the set has to stay together. I have the DVD copy but it only allows files to be transfered to the GPS or the SD I set up for it. The backorder problem should be corrected soon, they said they new cd's should be sent within 2 weeks.

But you can use my Tracks and Waypoints without any trouble, right?

The one feature I wish it had, would be the ability to join multiple waypoints and tracks.

example...if you road the loon lake side of the Rubicon....and then road the Tahoe side...you could combine those tracks into 1 file.

Yep, Tracks and Waypoints don't seem to care where you store them, internal or any SD card. Just the actaul maps require the unit serial number. Somewhere I thought I saw where tracks could be merged, I'll keep looking, may have been in the GPS.
