#4 Improved lighting

To improve the lighting on your pod light, I recommend you simply change the bulb to a PIAA Super Extreme white (draws only 65watts but produces an equivalent of 135 without the heat). Polaris has always used a standard H4 bulb in the pod, until now They use a proprietary bulb in the 02, 700 and I believe all 03's and higher and there is no aftermarket bulbs available for these.

If your crazy like me an own a machine with the proprietary bulb, you can purchase a 02 headlamp assembly and replace yours, so the H4 bulb will fit. You will also need to purchase the lock ring, rubber boot and change the plug in connector on your Polaris to a standard automotive type 3pin connector.

The standard bumper mount lights are ok at best and by replacing them with 55watt halogen driving lights you will see a major improvement.

CAUTION this combination can overload the charging system and your battery could get drawn down with long time use. Unless you have a 300watt charging system (SP600/700) I do not recommend the 3 lamp conversion Item#1 in combination with the bumper light mod at 55 watts each.


CAUTION Don't even think about using a high wattage bulb in the pod (100watts) it will eventually melt the light housing (to much heat)

I can tell you they are MUCH brighter. We were side by side a couple weeks back...and you could really tell...

These lights are much brighter .They were a little work to get them in , but they are nice.I had to grind down the plastic on the bottom and front of rack to make them fit good . I just cut and spliced the wires to the stock lights. http://www.autoaccessconnect.com/hemifffoglik.html

Allow me to chime in here and say that the all-new lights for '05 are REALLY good. I was going to put my spare set of 5" KC lights on it until I rode it at night the first time and decided it wasn't really necessary. All I need to do is do the 3-light mod and I'll be set.

Yeah the Sportsman has always been setup such that you either get the two front lights (lowbeams) or the pod light (highbeam), but there's a kit out there that makes it so that all three will operate at once when on highbeam.

i need the light i do alot of night riding around here so i am getting too ram spot lights and doing that mod you speak of....oh and i i am reading i see rear work lights on the 2005 2006 what dose that mean anyway?
