Magellan Topo Map 3D

Postby Ken » Sat Aug 20, 2005 2:05 pm

I just bought this....haven't got it yet. Found a copy on eBay for 60 bucks.

I dig the new 3D feature.

I like it. I have the Delorme topo and it has the 3-d also gets a little werd if you have the 3-d set up in a small scale. Gets hard to read.

Once you get this you have to give a review of it. . . it looks like it would make a killer photo or poster. Would be cool to print it up here on a plotter. . . make a nice big 24x36 poster and frame it. . .

What a trip..... Looks like it's under water.

Are the blue boxes way points?

Yes. The blue boxes are waypoints. Since they're kinda big...I had to cut out a bunch (simple check box) to minimize it down to the key points. I have to label them myself in Fireworks. Any labels you see...are mine after the fact.

I have to spin the map around to get the right angle (sometimes it's no small feat, because another mountain blocks the view), then I use SNAG IT to export the screen to a JPG. Then I pull each shot into Fireworks and reduce the size down to 640 wide. Then I label and put the watermark....yes..it takes awhile. Probably took me 3 hours to do all the shots you see there....of course, some trial and error involved.

It's clearly "smoothing" out the topography, which is fine. You can add the topo lines....but it just makes it look like a funky box field.
