GMRS Radio

Postby Rubicon_Rider » Mon Oct 08, 2012 8:21 pm

I just purchased some Midland Radio's and Helmet Headsets, my son and i tested them and they seem to work well. we are going on a long ride this weekend so I will give you all a final report. I bought the one for the open face helmet and got him the one for a full face helmet. i got them so i can tell him to slow down, turn right or left, or alert each others of on coming traffic. Another rider in our group bought a headset for his Garmin Rino so we can all communicate.

Yeah..I used the Collett radios with my kids....but it's really nice to be able to say SLOW DOWN or stay right....when Mom came..it wasn't that big of deal..I led...she was rear....but with just 2....If I led...I couldn't watch...if I was behind...I couldn't tell them where to go.

That's a really nice option to talk while riding.

The Collett Radio's look to be good quality with lots of other inputs for phone and music, that is exactly what i was looking for. They are more than what i wanted to spend and i can use the GMRS radio's for other things. i am using the headsets for the open face helmet, hopefully not too much noise. after reading your post i Googled Collett Radio's and it took me to your review on ATV Obsession. we are going to use them on the poker run out of Washington this weekend.

Those would be good on Miyagi Washington rides too, for things like "where the heck are you guys?" and "hey, which way do we turn here?" Of course on a Miyagi ride you would have to have the thing in a hermetically sealed container.

Too bad we can't all get standardized on something like GMRS or FRS. Ham may be better, but those are more available to everyone.

We have been using the Midlands on a few trips now and they work pretty good, they get staticy when spaced out really far, if we are making a turn or alerting the group of traffic everybody chimes in. They are inexpensive and made over seas but worth the money, we have fun using them. I already had a mic on my sons set quit working but it was probaby something he did. No replacement parts available.
