Sounds cool - simple one switch operation and waterproof. 170 degree lens - wow, wide!

Yeah, the single switch for recording is neat, my Countour HD has it too. You can use it with gloves and know whether it is recording or not by feeling the switch. It is waterproof which is nice, mine is only water resistant.

The downsides of the Roam are that it can't do 60 fps recording, so fast action and slo-mo during editing won't look as good. It has a built-in battery vs. a removable one in the other models so you can't have a spare battery. If you care about audio (I don't) it doesn't have an external mic jack like the Contour+.

So, you're saying it's "Contour Lite"? :-)

Well.... yeah, Contour Lite seems to fit. Check out their product comparisons:

My HD model isn't even shown, I guess they obsoleted it. I'd call it Contour Almost-lite. The Contour+ looks like it has everything but a kitchen sink! :)

I guess it's like cameras - they are offering a slimmed down model for less money.

Yup.

Dan from Contour sent this to me Wednesday. I wasn't allowed to say anything until Thursday, but I was too busy...

Here's their promo video.

Definitely some upside and downside with the new camera. I like the price point, if you just want to get into it....199 is a screaming deal...considering the waterproof thing (to 1 meter), and the video quality. My Contour + video quality just kills my Go Pro.

The battery thing is a little bummer and the 60FPS...but they were probably necessary to hit that 200 mark.

I forgot to bring my Contour + to Miyagi....I was bummed. I wanted to show you all how coolio it was...lol.

By the way....

The one slide recording..is different than your Contour HD...this turns it on AND records.

Also..the lens of the new ROAM, is the same as the Contour +, so you get great optical quality, in a 200 unit.

As for the 60fps.....here's what my contact has to say...

FYI...it's only rated to drop 1 meter, but actually you could drop it 20 feet and it will work fine. But legally we can't say that. Also there's a hack to make it shoot 60 fps in 1080; you run the risk of frying the main circuit board. But we're trying to figure out how to let people know they can change the file settings without opening ourselves up to legal liability. We don't want to be blamed if your camera catches on fire and, say, burns down all of Southern Utah.

I can tell you personally, the video qualtiy of the Contour kills my Go Pro. If you want some samples...i'll send or post some.

I guess you could ride around like this and not worry about it:
