SPOT Public Tracking Page Sharing

Postby GrizzlyGuy » Mon Jun 14, 2010 11:29 am

SPOT now has the capability to designate a public web page on your account so that anyone can go there and see where you are (or were). I thought it might be cool if we shared our pages. Here is mine:

GrizzlyGuy Public SPOT Page

I ride with my Track Progress mode on at all times so it sends my position every 10 minutes. When you go to the page you can see where I am on a Google map.

nice, now i just need to go pick up another spot. I left mine in Baja last time i went down which is ok since i think the boat down there needs one anyways (so i tell my self).

I didnt bother to do the track option has it been working good for you?
I was waiting tell i saw how well it picked up my ok / prvt msg first and so far so good but only used it on 3-4 trips so far.
Also how long are your battery's lasting running that track option?

i mainly bought it just to let people know im ok since i go out by my self so much. I admit being able to call for help from friends / family and the SOS adds some peace of mind as well.

Dang Mr. Green, that sucks that you left it in Baja. Maybe an illegal alien will pick it up and you can track them as they make their way across the border.

The battery life has been surprisingly good. I've had it running all the time during my last 3 rides, with batteries from last year (can't remember how many rides) and it is still going strong. The batteries for my GPS only last me about 2 rides, so that's not bad.

If you get a new one, I hear that the newer/smaller model has a problem with battery life. It uses 2 AAA's instead of 2 AA's. They are still selling the older/larger model like mine and I'd go for that if possible.

ya i left a newer one down there. i like the newer one since it has a light to tell you that your msg was sent thats plane and simple to read i like to know 100% that my msg was sent. Also they had a recall on the new ones about the battery life issue, no idea what they did to fix them though. Im going to pick up a newer one again ill keep track of battery life and we can compare see how much longer yours last (i'm planing on getting the track log this time).

Excellent! I see you were riding yesterday. Don't you ever work?

Ken and I are going to try and ride all the way out to Moonrocks today (out in the NV desert). I'll have SPOT on in case someone needs to retrieve our bodies.
