Helmet choices
So I've been invited on a spring ATV ride about a days trip east of me and I'm going to purchase a helmet. What do you most ATV'ers prefer, open face or full face. Somethings I have found is to look for a helmet that has a removable liner, any particular brand you would recommend. I have been looking at the rubatone black Z1R Rail Fuel.

Apparently I will be riding an Arctic Cat, not familiar with that unit but quite frankly couldn't care less what it is.

nice pic,
u already have full face. i would definitely try one on before u buy they all fit differently. if i was going to buy a helmet again i would have bought a lighter one. the day after a long ride my neck is soo sore and i think a lighter helmet would help.
enjoy the ride remember when in doubt GAS ON!!

None isn't an option for me....
Steve Jackson's son wiped out on a little ride around camp...no helmet...nearly died. He has no memory of how it happened. Steve (Montana Jacks) is a very experienced rider, and he couldn't see how he did it.
I've watched countless people...Steve Jackson at Moab, Terry Reid a few times, and Jack at Downieville (twice) and a few others....all roll over...in a spot YOU'D NEVER GUESS someone could roll over...ever.
Here's one....there's ONE ROCK! He clipped it just right. You could over that rock 100 times...and not roll.
Risk vs. "reward"...just ain't worth it.
As for full vs open....
Jeff, aka Loppy...rolled his CanAm over in a MILLISECOND!!! He was backing up, and hit the gas just a fraction too much...the back end kicked up, and flipped RIGHT OVER ass over front on to him...the handle bars...came down RIGHT on his face....and bounced off his helmet. No full-face, and the bar would have gone clean through his cheek.
Myself....I would have NEVER GUESSED! I was riding up a narrow over grown road...on a map, but barely there. I was going uphill....like I've done a 1000 times before...I hit a rock just right, the front end went STRAIGHT UP! I fell off the back of the bike...the ATV just hung there...in slow motion...then came over backwards....I literally flung myself out of the way, as it rolled over, landed, then rolled again..landing on it's side. Guess what hit first?? What if I didn't get out of the way? Had an open face and it landed just right?
No rider is immuned to circumstances meeting the perfect storm. I'm experienced enough to be humble to the power under my thumb.
