Emergency water gadget
This struck me as a cool gadget to have along in case your supply o' water bottles runs out and you are stuck miles from nowhere but have a handy lake or stream nearby.

Without having to plan for other devices, this could always be along in the first aid bag or something.

Cabella's also sells one of those filter straws for 10 dollars. REI and Cabela's both sell a MIOX purifier that will pretty much get rid of everything including waterborne viruses
I just bought a microfilter that works like a charm. I filtered some pretty shitty mud run off this last weekend to test it, and it tasted fine, and hasn't given me a case of the shits yet.
This is what I bought.

Good enough for the Marines, good enough for me!

Very cool device. We could have used this on the Rubicon last summer. We were boiling water for an hour, as we ran out.
BTW..moving to gizmos.

That could be a nice backup filter to tuck into the rear bag. I've got a couple like Teejay's, but older and practically antiques, that live in the Grizzly fender bags at all times. They work great, no more need to carry water on multi-day rides. A mud puddle with possum poop floating in it makes for a swell water source.
If anyone gets really-REALLY bored this winter, Flyin Boy and I shot a "how to filter water" educational video while shooting Granite and Grunge. Haven't edited it yet, though. We only shot it because I happened to remember all of the video gear but none of our drinks that day. So there we were, filtering water to refill our old Gatorade bottles, a few hundred feet downhill from this place:
And yes, we took the bypass around the obstacle in the picture. That guy in the picture must have ignored the 'Wimps - Turn Here' sign.

LOL! Touche, Dave.
I guess I am the one guy that no one should listen to when it comes to eating/drinking out on the trail. Being dead isn't even an absolute requirement for me when it comes to hunting up some quick vittles. Live earthworms and ants, for example: yummy. Best when consumed together as the worms are pretty bland all by themselves, and the ants add kind of a menthol flavor.
So does this mean that I'll never be able to sucker you into an overnight ride with me?

Sams Club is selling the same type of water filtering system that the military uses for about $10.

I'll just bring my own food! I'm sure that's good and all - practicality wins over "serving suggestions" when on the trail...GrizzlyGuy wrote: So does this mean that I'll never be able to sucker you into an overnight ride with me?
We should probably see your Grizzes come out of hibernation in July with the snowpack, eh? Or is this spring weather getting the melt on?
