Warn 2.5 inch winch with 48" plow issues..

Postby BruteForce » Mon Jan 14, 2008 7:18 pm

I just added a 48" snow plow to my Brute Force. After a mere 2 weeks of use, I've had at least 3 cable breaks and am now noticing that the cable is tunneling into the front face plate on the Warn winch.

Are there any options to prevent the cable from digging into the front plate on the winch? Also, when that occurs, it obviously starts shredding the braided cabling.

Any suggestions/parts/cabling replacement appreciated.

Just as an additional info.. when the plow is raised and lowered repeatedly, it causes it to file (dig/saw) into the face place..

Montana Jacks (probably a lot of other too) sells a Plow Lift Rope made by WARN - Part# WRN-68560
It looks like you have to pull the cable and put this on in place of the cable though.

This is from their description on http://www.montanajacks.com/index.asp?P ... ProdID=910.
This Synthetic Plow Lift Rope is unbelievably tough stuff and offers many advantages over your wire winch cable when lifting your plow. Your winch and wire cable is designed to pull your ATV in a horizontal manner. However, when used to lift a plow, the wire cable is bent over the roller fairlead repeatedly causing the cable to fray in a short period of time. This synthetic rope is much more flexible and supple than steel and can withstand the repeated flexing and bending. It will also eliminate Cable Stacking as well.

Use this 8 foot section of Synthetic Plow Lift Rope to temporarily replace your wire winch cable for plow season. It will stand up to repeated sharp angle pulls much better than steel wire. You will be glade you did!
Have fun, ride safe, keepem wheels down, and see you at the Jamborees,

This is what you need. It has a larger bottom roller.

Found one of the WARN snow-plow fairleads on eBay, but I have to determine if it can be mounted on the 2005 Kawi Brute Force 750i.

Can this be used throughout the year even without the snow plow? I don't see why it would be an issue..

No issue....winch away, provided it fits.

Most fairleads should have the same bolt pattern.(2500 to 3500# range) If you have a Warn on your rig now it should fit.
