Hey, Mr. Observant. The listing was for 46 and he said he has over 100.

Yep, same dude as Ken listed for the EXPIRED auction.

And as far as YOU go Mr. Administrator, I DID notice the listing was for 48 and he said he had 100's, but we cannot bid on something that has out lived it's auction life. Thankfully, Mr. Brute Force did some more research for us and got a number to call. Probably something a TRUE admin would do, rather than sending us on a wild goose chase. So :finger: and :p

Guys,
You would know more than I, Are these really Kolpin tanks? How does someone get "hundreds" of them? The ones listed on the Walmart site look different than these. I need one, or more, but am not sure about this. I'm thinking Sportsman's Warehouse where I can see what I am getting.
Your opinions/advice appreciated.

trainman,

The ones you're looking at on Walmart's site are likely the 'new' design - and from experiences of others on this site, much less desireable. They do carry more fuel, but are prone to leakage.

I would suspect, this guy picked these up at a clearance sale or auction because in California, they are not allowed to sell them any longer. They have a 'vent' and that makes them bad joo joo according to the 'experts'.

I have one of these already and I will verify it looks identical to the one he pictures on the auction, so I would say it's the real deal. I can let you know for sure once I receive them if you have concerns. I ordered 2 on Sunday.

Here's what Steve from Montana Jacks' said about the Old and New Kolpin Gas packs.

As you have seen, Kolpin came out with all new fuel and water packs. They are now blow-molding them instead of roto-molding them. This was to get the cost down. The tanks them selves seem to be OK but the pour spout is pure crap. I think Kolpin is going to have some major problems with this product due to leaks. If you want any of the old ones, I would get them asap before they are all sold.

No matter where you may source it, in my opinion the old tank is a better unit. Tougher with a better spout and vent system.

Old style $74.44

New Style (Cheaper) $64.49

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product. ... id=5871214

I got roped by price and bought a new style for Debbe. Leaks. I love the design with the handles, I like the larger capacity, but dammit, it leaks. So I am returning it to Wally World. Just ordered an old style.

And you didnt hear it from me, but if you order site to store nobody seems to notice it has a "Not for sale in CA" sticker. They just send it out and and you pick it up :)

The original design for the Koplin Flat Packs came from a plastic products design and molding company in Northern Utah. Their name escapes me. For some reason Pioneer comes to mind. The original manufacturer sold the gas can design and brand name to Koplin. Koplin then contracted with a either them or another moulding company in northern Utah to continue manufacturing the cans; I don't know the exact details of the buyout.

There have been thousands of these gas cans over the past few years cropping up on the web from time to time. I myself bought over 200 Jr Flat pack gas cans for sale on ATVUtah.com a while back ($25ea.). They were cosmetic factory defects which Koplin refused to accept from the mounding company. Again I say they were cosmetic defects and had nothing wrong with their ability to hold gas.

In the case of the cans I sold they had made hundreds of them with the Koplin brand name upside down in the molds. It seems when Koplin bought the manufacturing rights apparently they simply had the area in the molds where the original brand name was machined out. Then they made a new snap in insert with the Koplin name on it. From what I was told it has a habit of falling out from time to time and a few cans get made with no name or in rare occasions with the name stamp put in upside down. The cans are fine but Koplin wont sell them like that. Most people never even notice unless it's pointed out to them.

I have seen cans where someone tried to mill off the upside down name tag area and also seen some with this area ground off apparently with a hand held grinder. Those I think I'd pass on, they looked pretty rough.

I don't personally know the seller or the particulars of the cans in this instance but my bet is if anyone asked him these are similar items. If in doubt shoot him a message on eBay. He answered my question as to how many he had within a couple hours. He just didn't have enough and at a price I wanted to pay or they would all be on ATVUtah.com for sale now
