I finally got my mounting bracket from RAM, which I might add is awesome. Not as nice as the custom BC model you have, but still very nice. The one thing I've found about Magellan is that they advertise products long before they are actually available. The XL is a great example of this. Release date was pushed back and back, finally arrived about 5 months later.....with no accesories.

I ordered last week the ram accesories and mounting kit. . . I then went away on vacation and came back to a nice surprise. . . there the mounting kit was. . . I totally forgot I had ordered it. Well got it on the handle bars and it looks pretty cool. I got a 1.75" arm though as OldTrucks suggested not going with the 3" arm as it stood up to much and in the event of a roll would mess it up.

Larry...there's so many options for RAM mounts...can you show exactly what you did? Links or pictures?

I used this cradle, http://www.expressmounts.com/item-ram-m ... holma6.htm with this arm and bar mount, http://www.expressmounts.com/item-ram/ramb149z-a.htm
Super easy to install, solid, and very easy to adjust, and very easy to take on and off the quad. I don't think I have a picture of it but I'll look around[/url]

Well, I've joined the eXplorist XL club.
I've got some questions for everyone.
1. What size SD card are you using? I've got the topo 3d and the DirectRoute v3 DVD for maps. I'd like to have plenty of room for future growth.
2. I heard Larry mention older maps for use in Nevada. What exactly are you talking about? Are these just an older version of DirectRoute?
3. What kinds of mounts are you using for your trucks? These things are just too cool to use just on the quads.

Some guy converted or did something to the Old Magellan Topo map...Larry will have to chime in....cause since I haven't bought mine yet...I haven't asked for details.Dennis wrote:2. I use this type of mount for my Magellan Road Mate 700 (the talking Hertz style one)....works totally fine.

Have you guys looked at this site??...not that theres different types of software but they use a conversion tool for different software and gps types with alot of track files from alot of places. The only catch, you have to upload a file in order to download and it needs to be in gpx format.
More explained on the site. http://www.gpsxchange.com/

I use that for Google Earth...they only use Gpx for tracks.

Dennis I'm using a 1 gig card and it's plenty large enough. I created regions that cover the Western US and still have over 1/2 of it open. The Topo 3D limits how large the regions can be so I made each state a region, and broke California in half. I also created smaller regions that cover just the local area of the El Dorado, Tahoe, and the Plumas National Forests. With all that I still have enough space to add the rest of the US if I want. Go to Express Mounts and check what they have. In my truck I mounted a 1" ball on the dash so I can use the same arm and mount I use on the quad and Rhino.

No, too big. I think it's easier and faster loading to just do individual states. I tried making Oregon and Washington as one and I think that was too large, so I just just did each state. It only matters when you're along borders, the screen just defaults to the base map when that happens, so you then have to load the next region. With 2 gigs you can load everything you want

That's an idea....
I've had mine plugged in since 2003. I've only pulled it out a couple times for one of those 12v pumps.
