Bowman Lake

Postby hemingray » Sun Apr 14, 2013 3:09 pm

What the heck - Bowman Lake is a lot closer, like just 40 minutes to riding, than heading up to Paynes Creek (sorry guys!). TNF road report said road was open to Bowman Lake, and it turned out to be open to Jackson Creek Campground and Faucherie Lake. Gorgeous up there with all the water running higher than I am used to seeing, and even the seasonal creeks that are usually beds of rock are running. Snow drifted in a shaded uphill curve just a short distance from the 76 road prevented getting any further towards Meadow Lake, though I'm confident that road is still well blocked. Still, 50 miles of cruising was fun.

Faucherie Lake road is getting pretty bad, very rutted now. Those Subaru Kayak carriers are going to have a rough go of it this year!

It's nice that the lower elevations are melting off a lot, and I can get in to see the waterworks before the high elevation snow is gone. Another couple of weeks and more roads should be open.

All the roads should be open. I have never ridden around Bowman Lake. I'll have to try it out. A couple weeks back, I turned off 80 just before the Eagles Lakes exit off I80. I rode on Texas Hill Mears Road around Lake Valley Reservoir. I found a lot of trails taking the Mears Spur Drive out there along Monumental Ridge.

Has anyone ever ridden out there?
