Bowman and Pinoli Peak

Postby hemingray » Sat Nov 03, 2012 7:50 pm

A last minute decision to take a shot at the Bowman Area - managed to do the entire Pinoli Loop. What a nice day out there - even up in the snow, I just needed a lined sweatshirt. Lots of tracks already in the snow made things pretty easy - from about 6800 feet on the west side all the way down to the intersection of the 76 road and Meadow Lake Road. A side trip to Sawmill and Faucherie Lakes brought some nice pictures. See the gallery.

Killer day. Looks like you guys had a good run over to Alleghany as well. Hope this week doesn't bring too much snow, its supposed to be a cold system. Grrrr.

The more I think about it, it was probably one of the best days ever up there - clear skies, warm day, snow, blue lakes, green forest, full loop, no dust - awesome.

We had such a good ride on Sunday that other riders wants us to take them next weekend, do you think the storm will bring much snow between Washington and Alleghaney? If so it would probably melt fairly quick, don't ya think?

Um, this sounds like a really cold one coming on, snow levels are going to be down to 2500-3000 feet this time.

The forecast for Alleghany through Blue Canyon snow amounts are something like 5 inches total for Thursday and Friday and maybe a bit Saturday. But it's not going to be melty, Friday and Saturday's high are 34 degrees with a windchill of 21 degrees. Friday and Saturday's lows are only 19. Sunday's high is only 43.

The lesser amounts of snow could make it a fun ride, but bundle up - it's going to be cold!

That really steep road down to the Middle Fork Yuba from Orleans Flat would be really sporty with snow on it.

Sporty?? Uh Dave, did you make a trip up to WA to get some of that legal weed last night?? That is not the adjective I would use to describe what that ride would be like....

NOW they open the English Mountain road gate? WTF? That's an 8-pointer, I wanted to do it but it was closed every time I rode by.
