My Miyagi pix

Postby hemingray » Sun Sep 16, 2012 10:39 am

Wow, what a ride to Washington - I clocked 62 miles. My favorite part? Plumbago Road down to the Middle Yuba River and back up the other side. 1500 feet in 1.4 miles - wow. I have a whole new list of waypoints to check out now.

Looks like a fun ride! One of these days I need to see that Pumbago Mine Road and the Relief Hill Road you're talking about. That's still virgin territory for me.

I think this nail-magnet thing is some kind of contagious virus. I had a bad case of it and must have passed it on to you!

I'm ready to do that again - were it not for the catching up I had to do, I would have done a lot more pix on that road. I want to run it in reverse now - with 5 extra gallons of gas! ;-)
ALSO - looks like you can get to Alleghany on the other side of Plumbago Road (a.k.a. German Bar Road, I discovered) - there's a serviceable bridge there too. I'm pretty sure it's pavement at Alleghany, but it would be fun to do. It's got a "4WD recommended" sign at the bridge, so it must go up to Lafayette Ridge from there.

If I get another nail, I'm going to do an exorcism to remove whatever karma ran over my dogma to transfer the nail voodoo.

In October I would like to get a little group ride to maybe do FR-19 (Yuba Gap/Emigrant Gap) or Soda Springs Road (Foresthill). Something where we can make stops and take pictures. Both of those have killer scenery.

That would be awesome! I'd love to go. As long as its not the weekend of the 13th & 14th I'm free for the rest of the month. Please keep me post. Thanks!

If you continue west from where we turned to go down to German Bar, where the old grey compressor was, it's just a few miles into Alleghany. About a 1/2 mile from that intersection Lafayette Rd has a fork, take the the right fork onto Kanaka Creek Rd and that goes right into town. The bridge with the sign is on the Alleghany side of Kanaka Creek. The pavement starts about 100 yards from town, I ride in there all of the time, it's like Washington as far as ATV traffic is concerned, however your results may vary. If you're really adventurous you can go on through town and take Foote Crossing back up to Cruzon/Graniteville Rd, makes a nice loop

Right at the Kanaka Creek bridge there is an old stamp mill buried in the brush, easy to see it if you're looking for it.

We'll have to hook up somehow Mike, before the season is over.

Larry - despite all the snivelling (me included!) about the length of the ride, it was one awesomely cool loop! Plumbago/German Bar Road was worth the price of admission! Thanks for the additional info on Alleghany too. I've been there in my truck, but would like to check it out again. Definitely want to see that stamp mill!

Also - I meant to ask you and forgot on Saturday, but you told me on once there was a way to tie Mears Meadow to the FR-45 area below. I never did find it, though I suspect I know where it is and if I'm right, it's become completely overgrown (I ripped a CV boot on the road I think it is off of.) That road that comes off the top from Mears, turns left and wraps around and down the little ridge and turns back towards Monumental Creek at a landing - that's where I think it is/was. Am I right?

I was warned before we left that it might be like herding cats.....with some reservation I did it anyway. I expected some grumbling but really didn't think it would take as long as it did. I can usually do that full loop in about 3 hours, that's from Washington without the Meadow Lake section. Once we started along Henness Pass I considered rolling into Alleghany for lunch at Casey's Place, that would have shortened it by a couple hours. However, I knew that the Washington Hotel lunch was a traditional in itself. http://www.caseys-place.com/

Remember it was a Memorial Ride for two guys so I had to have enough miles for both of them. I know Terry would have gotten lost along the way and Chadd would have been proud of the asphalt section.

I'm pretty sure I have tracks that show the route out of Mears, I think I've dropped a crumb on anything wide enough for a quad or motorcycle on that section of land, I just need to see what file has it.
