More Bowman canal exploring

Postby hemingray » Mon Aug 27, 2012 9:15 pm

Having sustained a little injury last week, I wanted to take an easy ride - and what better than to continue my explorations of the Bowman Spaulding Conduit (canal) areas. Only 10 miles on the quad, but got in a little walking and some great views!

Yep - no problems, but I couldn't do a big long ride. Terrific to be out there on a gorgeous day.

I'm tossing it around; there is a huge get together of retired and some current employees of the company I work for down in the Bay Area - on Miyagi Saturday. (I've worked for the same place for nearly 35 years). I'm still trying to figure it out...

They aren't the only bastards. In case you haven't noticed, I haven't been on Facebook in quite a while. I was trying to be "Mr. Invisible" in the hopes that my non-presence at a certain event the same weekend as Miyagi wouldn't be missed. Tonight I get this, sent to my wife via LinkedIn:
Subject: Eric's 30th class reunion

Tamar,
Could you please let Eric know that both Moni and I are planning on going to the reunion and that we are expecting Eric to be there. Dr [Moni's]'s cell number is xxx-xxx-xxxx and mine is xxx-xxx-xxxx. The reunion is 15 Sep from 2-8 at the Boonville Senior Center, how appropriate huh? It would be great to see him and meet you! Please pass Eric my email address too: xxxx Moni's is xxx.

Thanks so much!
Maria
Dammit! So much for laying low. I'm going to have night ride withdrawals, especially after Brian and I went out for a second one last year after everyone else hit the sack.. :(

Yo Dave, believe it or not I was just pouring over the topos and aerial photos trying to figure out the best route up onto Clyde Mountain. Shazam, you even took a photo of it so now I can see what it really looks like!

Flyin Boy and I were out there riding last week. Naturally I took us by Findley Ridge, Pt. 6522 and Pinoli Ridge to check out their feasibility for an overnight SOTA expedition (plus a few others we didn't ride by). I'd been to Pinoli Ridge with you, it's campable on top, but I didn't realize that Pt. 6522 is too, if you don't mind camping in a log landing with no real view.

Oh, and we finally found the trail leading up to mine on the side of English Mountain. It leaves the Faucherie Lake road just a few hundred feet from where I've camped along Canyon Creek and I'd missed it every time. Really nice trail, has some rocks and fun tree-down obstacles, and the views from up there are awesome!

Hey Eric,

I understand...I had my 30 year in 2010...so I feel your pain...it's a unique night....Would I rather go to Mr. Miyagi? Of course...but I know, I'll never have another 30th again. Turns out...I ran into a friend that I hadn't seen in 30 years....and he died of a heart attack a month after the reunion. So you never know.

Yeah, I don't think you're going to find a route up Clyde Mountain from a riding perspective. Just past Fuller Lake are some roads that lead down to the canal, and also to your holy grail access. New signage all over the place, and a brand new gate where there once wasn't, about here: 39°21'12.72"N by 120°39'53.03"W. It's going to be a lonnng hike...

30TH reunion? One more year and it's my 40th. Yikes.
