I watched ... and learned

A month and a half ago, GrizzlyGuy and I took a ride up to Yuba Pass and a few miles into the ride, sloppy handling caused a stop to inspect - and then remove a nail from a tire. I'm pretty careful not to laugh - you know, karma!

So sloppy handling on a ride down by the railroad caused me to find a mere 2 lbs of air in the tire - and this!

Since I had to air up before my Bowman ride a couple of weeks ago, I'm thinking I picked this up on Soda Springs Road somewhere. I figure it's karma for making light of Ken's tire pinch on the Dayton Pizza ride... :-)

Since I watched and learned while Eric plugged his tire... I was already an expert and putting in a plug took nothing at all to put in! ;-)

Its always nice to see some one deal with the issue first lets me tackle the job more confidently at least.

next time some one will have to show ya how to set a bead out on the trail 8) with nothing but gas from your fuel tank .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BzP6Vayj0k ive never had to on a atv tire yet (knock on wood).

Good job with your (first?) plug insert bruther! 8)

I carry a plethora of tire repair tools at all times for this very reason...

And if you wanna' bring up the topic of using flamable liquids to set broken beads... dont ask me in public

@ Ken= I dont know where you get your shit from, but just so you know, I blew a small (painfull) amount of beer foam out my nostrils reading your reply... LMFAO #-o

I actually picked up more than the minimum after Eric got his flat, I realized I needed more plugs just in case.

It did come out pretty good, didn't it? Totally random - it's just how the light was in front of the garage at the moment and it's a pretty artsy nail huh? :-)

Whoa, you mean I actually managed to teach someone something that is quasi-mechanical in nature? That's a first. Why do you think I keep Ken on speed dial?

I just plugged another tire the other day, on the other Grizzly. I wasn't planning to but I called the tire shop and the conversation went like this:

Me: I had a nail in my ATV tire, plugged it, and now I've got a nail in a different tire. Can you guys do something like patch these from the inside?
Tire Guy: Plugs work just as well.
Me: Really?!?
Tire Guy: Yup.
Me: OK, I guess I won't be coming in after all!

Pro tip: In addition to extra plugs, get some extra rubber cement. The dinky little tubes that come with the plug kits are good for one plugging or maybe two at the most. The plug refill kits have the same dinky little tube. I bought a bunch of 1 Oz tubes to toss in the Grizzlies and they are a lot bigger. I think I'm now carrying enough supplies to open a mobile tire repair shop!

I was actually referring to the Yuba ride link you posted up top... but your nail pic is pretty good too :D

Gadzooks, barely a month later.... I've only ever had two nails in 6 years, and it happens in the same tire and the same tread area inside of a month. The tire is a nail magnet!
