FR-19/Helester Point

Postby hemingray » Sun Oct 17, 2010 5:29 pm

Loaded up the raingear and headed for an easy ride off FR-19 (Emigrant Gap side). It's familiar territory, but I wanted to check out what's west of Helester Point.

FR-19 has a nice new surface from the crossing of the East Fork of the North Fork, up to Texas Hill. It's a steep section, so the new paving is nice.

Not much to shoot today with the gray sky. This is looking west, Sawtooth Ridge ends at the flatopped ridge in the middle right distance

This is as far as I got, the skies started looking really threatening and I had something like 10 miles back. Giant Gap is in the distance.

Riding down Sawtooth Ridge was fun - it's alternately open like this and closed forest. Once you pass the Helester Point turnoff, it gets twisty and narrow and fun.

Once past Helester, it pretty much stays to the ridge when possible.

There's a large prospect near the road.

The narrow part is definitely a jeep trail, it would be hairy in a full-size pickup.

At the other end of Sawtooth Ridge is Dawson Spring.

I scooted back from there and just as I started driving the truck down FR-19, it started to rain. Dodged that one nicely!
Wherever I go, there I am

Cool! You lucked out in dodging the rain. It rained off and on up here (mostly on) the whole day.
