Colorado Ride

Postby traildad » Fri Aug 14, 2009 8:42 pm

I am back after 2900 miles and a bit over two weeks. It was a trip full of firsts. First on the trail breakdown, first crash, first ride above 12000 ft. and first ride with my brother Dan. We all had a great time. I now know that they are called the Rocky Mountains for a reason. We were able to squeeze in three good rides. With all the rocks, if I can't call my self a "rock crawler" I know for sure that I am at least a "rock dodger". I was riding with my brother Dan and his son Travis. Travis led the rides and as it turns out he isn't having fun unless he is going fast, climbing rocks or in the water. They were both riding Grizzly 700s with power steering. We had a close up visit by a Mother Moose and her calf. I would love to go back and do some ATV camping out on the trail. I will put up photos and tracks as I can. Ken

Kingston Peak Trail

More trails than you can throw a rock at.

One of the smooth roads.

I'm a wanderer.

My kind of fishing. If you look close you can see someone tube fishing.

The same lake with the tube fisher.
Image

You can almost look down at the rain.
Image

12065 feet.
Image

This isn't deep enough.
Image

ATV Jet Ski. If you do this right, the ATV planes up on the skid plate.
Image

My first crash. It dipped right, the left bumped up, and over I went. Just a little scratch and a whack on the ankle.

Chinns Lake

Family Fun. If you look close you can see the 3 month old infant strapped to the mom. Two of the other kids are with dad.

We camped in Columbine Campground and rode in the area near Central City. Big time gambling just down the road, more fun up the road. I will post tracks later.

I jetted down one smaller jet and it ran fine. We were pulling a long hill, I am not sure of the elevation and the most I could go was 27mph.

Thanks, Yeah Sharon only went on one ride and that was enough for her. This was my first ride that could be called rock crawling. Nothing got broke so it was good. My back was feeling it after 4 days of pounding. I tried out the 700 with power steering and it was sweet. What a difference in ride.

Great pictures!! I would love to go back with the quad. We lived in Aurora many years ago and that's where I bought my first Jeep. Explored quite a bit with that, but the quad would be infinitely more fun - IMHO.

Thanks for the compliments. I want to post the tracks but I am not sure how to. In the past I put them in my online storage with ATT Yahoo, but I no longer get the space. Is there any way to do it other than sending them to people that ask?

I am surprised I got no comments. These people were camped across the road from us. She seemed to think she was just fine riding with one hand while her 3 month old rode with her.
