red dog road
I have a buddy who went riding this weekend off of 174, and red dog road. He said it was a good ride, and that he would go back again. Anybody familiar with this area? I should be more specific, he took 174 off of 80, then turned right on red dog road.....

To get to Red Dog you go out You Bet Rd from 174. That area goes between Chicago Park (You Bet & 174) and Hwy 20 along Chalk Bluff and Lowell Hill. Lot's of riding, but also lots of traffic, alot of it without teeth. I used to ride that area 10-20 years ago but theres more and more people living and using the area, not quite as fun as it used to be.

Mostly trail use, more vehicles running around up there. Especially on the weekends, not bad if you could ride on.....say a Friday. Also, Lowell Hill doesn't go through to 20, there is a bridge out, Chalk Bluff goes all the way up to 20, and Burlington Rd forks off to 20. I just see more traffic using the area and more development of the private property.

The lower elevations are private, as you move up you get into the Tahoe NF. Go in 174 from Colfax, turn Rt on You Bet and look for parking where it meets Red Dog. You probably wont be able to get to far up, snow has been falling at 3000 feet and lower during every storm lately. When I left for work this morning it was spitting snow down to 2000, and it's supposed to be coming in again on Friday.
