Long Trail..>Calif > Oregon

Postby Ken » Mon Jun 20, 2005 10:39 pm

I met a Rep at Miren's Title...Fidelity. His dad....went from N. Cal to Oregon....all the way on ATV. He mapped out a route for a year...GPS'd it.

Hopefully I can get him to let us know about some of them....that's amazing. I wouldn't even think it's possible.

No shit? It seems impossible....but I'm sure someone figured it out.

I think they did it in 2 weeks.....1 year to plan. Not sure how many miles per day. I'm hoping to actually talk to him.

I just thought about it more....I would guess None or very little was through California.

If you went more East...you could ride on roads in Arizona...not sure about other states...but Arizona and Nevada would eat up a lot of that distance....then slide over to Montana from Idaho...

The Mexico to Canada trip was done up the Rocky Mountains, approximately. None was in California... I believe they went through Arizona or New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana.

My understanding is that it involved travel on private land, and permission was acquired beforehand. I also know that the same group is working to make this trail legal to ride for everyone, so I suspect they're working on acquiring the land rights for it to all work.

As I suspected this route looks more feasible just looking at a USA map. I suggested Nevada for obvious reasons...and Arizona because they could legally drive on the street.

As for getting permission....that must have taken YEARS...just to research it. Then...by the time you get the last guy to accept it....the 3rd guy sells to a guy who says no way.
