Hey BF your belt should not be tight at all you should be able to put a straight edge from the driven pully to the primary and with very little effort push down on the belt to get about 1 inch of deflection. Also from my experience stick with the Kawi belts the aftermarket stuff is junk. To get the primary clutch off you need a primary puller about 40.00 if you need one I can send you mine on loan. I am in a hurry this morning to get off to work but here is a good link on belt tightening deflection settings for the brute.
