ATV Obsession Upgrade

Postby Ken » Mon Mar 13, 2006 11:45 am

I'm in the process of upgrading the site. ...we've outgrown our current configuration....

Thank you to everyone who shows up. This site LITERALLY...started from scratch, with no advertising simply so I could show my friends who I ride with and friends I don't, the pictures I took.

Since then....Terry started taking pictures, Jack joined...then Larry (Oldtrucks)....more people started showing up.

I initially started this site using a FREE 3 year hosting from 1and1.com, which is #1 hosting provider worldwide...but they had no US presence. So my friend Tom who lives in England, who is the site tech for the Racerxband.com site, told me that this English company was giving away 3 free years of hosting in the US. So I grabbed 2 accounts. One was for this site...and the other turned into the videos.

The free site had a limit of 500MB of storage and 5GB per month of data transfer. Well....I can tell you we now have nearly 300MG of videos and over 400MB of photos and website stuff. And, in any given month, I spend $6 a month in overage charges for going over the 5GB limit.

So, I've decided to upgrade the site to the $5 a month plan, which will allow me 500GB of bandwidth tranfers and 10,000 MB of storage.

I've asked Tom, to back up the site and upgrade the board to the latest version. So, during this process, you could see some glitches and such. Don't panic.

Once Tom is complete, I will commence the account upgrade, which could also include some more glitches...which Tom will help me resolve. So don't fret....if the site goes completely BOOM....Tom will have all the posts backed up on his PC in the UK.

Once again...Thanks for hanging out and obviously enjoying the photos and videos....

Thanks Bill....but nah...I can swing it. I was thinking of selling some stuff from CafePress...it's easy to do....you don't make much...but I don't need much.

I'm still kinda floored, that the pictures and vids are that popular. Clearly, more than just us are looking at them.

We're getting more than 20,000 hits per year....that's definitely more than just us coming here.

There is a new feature...PHOTO GALLERY. So, I tried it at lunch to see how it was, compared to how I do it now.

BLECK....that's why the site was down.

Andrew...the videos will all be back up this weekend...permanently. Tom is doing the upgrade tonight...which is this afternoon for us. (Tom lives in England)

Once the upgrade is done...I'll be upgrading the account. I just can't move over the videos til I get home...since I don't have them on my laptop here in San Diego.

Ok.

If you haven't noticed...The board has been upgraded to a new version...the DB has been backed up.

It will go down at somepoint between today and tomorrow....and I have to push over, all the files...and Tom has to do the board...so just prepare....and we may lose a post or two.

You will NOT see Brandon Lloyd....probably just a 404 error.

Thanks guys.

Upgrade appears complete!!!!

Used storage space 402.90 MB
Total storage space 50,000.00 MB
Available storage space 49,597.10 MB

I now have 49GB of new storage! My old limit was 500MB..as you can see...we were only 98 megs away from maxing out.

50 GB is $4.95 per month.

100GB is $9.95 per month.

www.1and1.com

1and1 is the largest host in the world. They are from the UK. They had no presence in the USA at all...so 2 years ago, they offered free 500MB websites for 3 years. So I grabbed 2. But my 'free' site started to cost me 6 bucks a month, because we went over the 5GB per month bandwidth limit.

As it turned out...their doom and gloom message about "backing up ALL data....you WILL LOSE data....blah blah blah.." was just a CYA for them. We didn't lose anything and it was finished in about an hour.

But...I did the right thing...I had all the files backed up on 2 PC's and Tom had a copy of the board MySQL DB in England. So we were ok.

site looks to be up and running. one minor inconvience though

the times all seem to be off. Not sure if it is set at the server level, but everyone seems to be posting at future times. . .
