Spammer Onslaught

Postby Ken » Tue Jan 18, 2011 10:04 am

I'm not sure what happened, but apparently we've been discovered by spammers. I normally have about 3-5 people sign up per day, usually 2 or 3 a week..are legit.

Not anymore. In the past 6 days, I've been having about 50 per day! I have to activate all the accounts....If I have any question, I have to check the IP address, most are from China, Nigeria and Russia. FORTUNATELY, most of the user names are easy to spot as phoney.

AlanetesPalazola
Aburrencini
Ideallelesogy
Crypexbeexy

Until I can come up with a new way to block them....if you see any posts....let me know immediately!! And please don't reply...it serves no purpose.

Same on my website. You are not alone on this. I just disabled the auto-activate function and now only activate those that look legit.

A tool for you to consider if you're running on a Linux foundation:

I'm not sure if I have that much control over the server.

But I did use there list, to blanket ban a ton of IP's.
