Spammers

Postby Ken » Tue Jun 22, 2010 7:12 am

I think I have this under control...I THINK.

It just goes to show, how important that VIP code mod was on the old board. From June 19 (day 1) to June 20 (day 2)...49 SPAMMERS signed up to the board!! 49 of them...How on earth do they find the board so fast...I'll never know.

I've turned on visual code to sign up, and Admin approval (for now). If I see the visual code working to stop the BOTS and not to many real people trying it....I'll allow users to activate on their own.

Crazy.

Ok...good news (at least for me!)

After 1 day of turning on visual confirmation....no spammers in que for approval...after getting 50 in 1 day before.

Ya, when I got our site up and running we were getting close to two dozen a day. I did some of the same upgrades and also added one that asks some very simple questions like "Are you human?". So far that has taken care of the problem for us.
