Good spots near Pollock Pines

Postby traildad » Tue May 16, 2006 7:14 pm

We got to go back up to the Pollock Pines area again. It is really nice riding up there. We parked just off North South road. We rode east up to about 5600 feet where we were blocked by too much snow. We went back and rode down Pebble Canyon road and along camp creek and circled back to north south road at the bridge. It was a nice easy ride of about 25 miles.

Does anyone know if it is legal to ride on north south road? There were quite a few people riding quads on the pavement. We checked out Capps Crossing campground. The forest web site seems to say that it is a group camp and available to indivduals only if no groups reserve it. Do the campgrounds in the area fill up early on normal Friday nights?

Now that the snow is melting I can't wait to go back. Does anyone have a favorite riding spot near there that they would like to share?

I suspect that you could get a ticket for riding on the North-South Road as it is technically a paved road. There are, however, lots of numbered Forest Service roads and trails off of the N-S Road where you can ride legally. Some are described here:

Yes I have the forest map and we rode some of the dirt roads. One woman said that they were only riding north south road for a quarter mile which they felt was like "crossing" it. :) I wonder how much it is enforced. Ken

would guess it is a matter of how cool the cop was (oxy-moron there), as some rookie who was trying to make a name for themselves would proably write you all up, take your bikes and laugh the whole time, but a vetran would proably warn you and do like the Sheriff did for us when we ride 49 last year

Well...if it's in El Dorado County...and you're on a non-designated route....better whip out your check book.

A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or
$10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both. 16 USC 551 and 18
USC 3559, 3571, and 3581.

LOL...no. Technically, we're not. We'd have to be registered with the C4WDA.

And they said...No warnings.
