On May 14, 2004, we took this photo right near the Loon Lake dam.

man what a difference, it is going to be a long time before all the snow melts up in the hills which is good and bad. . . Going to be a bad year for debris in the lakes. . .

Currently Folsom Lake is restricted to speeds of less than 5mph due to so much debris in the river and flodding down into the main lake area.

Good for the rivers I suppose....clearing out all the natures trash...and I'm sure a few bits of human trash.

Have to skim the lake....but I suppose they'll just wait for all the wood to sink and rot.

Did you see Nova on Global Dimming?

Some Israel scentists in the 50's, did some measurements of sunlight for irrigation. They went back and did the same thing 50 years later...there was something like an 18% reduction in sunlight....but they were cautious about the data.

But then, a scientist in Ohio...was doing a study on Contrails from planes, and their effect on sunlight. His problem? How to get good data for control(when none existed). His big "break" came...on 9/12 through 15, when all the planes were grounded in 2001. Shockingly....the average (cold vs hot) US temp spiked 2-3 degrees...this number...hardly changes at all...but it jumped out on his graph like a sore thumb.

Anyway...the upshot of all this data is....from all the pollution and stuff in the air....it's been blocking the suns rays over the last 100 years...especially last 50. This has been a "deduction" from Global Warming.

The concern is....if visible particle emissions are reduced (as they have been significantly in the US) on a worldwide scale...without a corresponding reduction in Co2 and other greenhouse gasses...we could be looking at 10 degree increase in temps in the next 100 years.

Based on how stupid we are? I don't doubt us doing it.

Pretty enlightening...or scary show...depending on your view.

I think we can count on China and the rest of the third world to make up the difference, then some. (and blame us the whole time)

They actually talked about that too Terry.

They said the US is on the few countries in the world that removes most of the particles with scrubbers and they do this process before burning that removes a lot of sulphur. It creates some slag type product...that is disposed and is mostly toxic to the land! so there ya go. Also, some coal in Wyoming has very little sulphur...

They were developing techniques to remove Co2 from the stacks.

The desirable Wyoming coal is mined in a place called the Powder River Basin, an area with oil and gas resources, as well. I hear the demand for this low-sulfur coal has created quite a mining boom there.

I'll bet.

Back on track a bit....from some guys who've been on the trail on skis....there's between a few feet and 11 feet still on the trail. All the lakes are still frozen, except Rockbound, which is thawing on end.
