Any suggestions for current conditions such as snow depth?

Postby traildad » Thu Mar 09, 2006 9:45 pm

I am still waiting to get to ride up near Pollock Pines. On our last ride my wife's ATV started leaking oil from an axle seal. I finally got it fixed and we were going to ride last week when the snow came down low again. I know depending on the weather the snow depth at that elevation can vary a lot. Some sun or a warm storm can do a lot to melt the snow near Pollock Pines.

Does anyone have ideas on where I can get good info on how deep the snow is at the 4000 to 5000 ft. elevation range. Most of the webcams are of the ski areas and the snotel network are at much higher elevations. The weather reports might tell me how much snow falls but it doesn't tell me when it is melted away. We would like to ride the weekend after next and here comes more low snow. Any ideas on how to figure out how deep the snow is on the Mormon Emigrant trail when it comes time?

Thanks Ken

Wednesday the snow at 4,000 to 5,000 was around 12" to 24". That may consolidate quickly with the day of sunshine we had. Not sure if a warmer storm is coming or not.

The snow forecast is snow almost every day for the next 10 days.

The snow you saw from our last ride was between 2000 and 4500. My radiator blew at 4,500 ft. There was what...3 feet of snow at 4500...

Well it looks like the snow is going to keep me home for a while. I was looking at the web cam at Sciots Tract which is around 5700 feet and it shows the snow almost up to 6 feet. http://www.sciotscamp.org/webcam.asp It seems that the webcam for Strawberry Cabin is out of order. If anyone gets current info please keep us up to date. Thanks Ken
