Hummer Stuck In Fordyce Trail
This is a trail we go to frequently.
This Hummer was found on Memorial Weekend on Winch Hill #3. This chat board has been trying to find the owner (pirate4x4.com).
They found him a few days later...here's the story.
Details...The hummer has been there since 10/29/03. They broke beyond repair and camped. Then it snow like a mother and hiked back out the long way...not knowing about the by-pass. The partner seems like a real nice guy and it sounds like they tried to do the right thing. They informed the Forrest Service about the situation leaving contact information and looked into getting a Helo to fly it out....Not kidding...$35,000.00. They decided to wait out the winter.
Jack, Terry, Dusty and I know...EXACTLY what they ran into.
Here's a picture of me...from my Nov 1, 2003 photos. This is the same trail, 3 days later.
They found pictures of the same Hummer doing MOAB...that's how they found the guy.
Here's some photos during the first recovery weekend. (June 6 an 7)
The last the thread goes...they were trying again this weekend.
The original Jeep that caused it all...is just before the first Fordyce Crossing.

Thrasher,
That river crossing, where the Jeep rolls and where I go across...is like 30 Feet behind the photographer.

These huge boulders!! (May 15 th photos)
The original white jeep, blew an axle. They put it on top of the Hummer, and tried to get out alone. They blew something in the rear axle on the Hummer too.
It dumped snow that night....we went riding on Nov 1st. Same trail...we just didn't go as far.

They tried to recover it the weekend before...another Hummer broke trying to get the first one out.
They said :Actually, we only got my Hummer out of there. And it had only been there a few days ... rear diff broke while trying to hel pthe blue Hummer that has been there since Halloween. Spoke to the other owner today, and they were unable to recover theirs. Seems their jeep, quad, and Hummer are still there .... they hope to recover them this weekend
Here's some more pictures.

Terry and I found the Hummer today....
Here's why it's not moving. And no...it doesn't have 4 wheel steering.

Yes...They had to pull it UPHILL over boulders for 2 miles. Then out on dirt road for 12 miles. That's where it sits.Thrasher wrote:ahh..but it seems to have been moved from it's original location amongst the rocks.

ROFL.....
After those pictures....the only time it will be in 4WD, is going up Interstate 80 to go skiing.
Yeah....sorry if I wasn't clear...The chimunk photo...is the OTHER Hummer, sent to rescue.
I'm thinking those A-Arms were busted from the weight of the snow....it can EASILY get 20 feet of snow there. That's a lot of weight.
If you see the video clip I posted, of me trying to go up the steep hill....that's ONE of the hills they had to pull that fawker up. That H1 weighs 7,500lbs...EMPTY. With all the shit...that thing is EASILY, over 8,000lbs.
My Willys Jeep weighs 2,500. Pulling that Hummer, is like trying to pull 3 of my Jeep's.
