Holding off on the ATV…however, I did buy new rims and tires.
For the time being I have decided to invest my time and energy into hiking. :D
I enjoy hiking much more and I’ve met some really fantastic people and I’ve gone on some really cool hikes and visited places ya can‘t take an ATV  I have some cool hiking pics in my sig!

Don’t worry, I’m not turning into a tree-hugger! or a liberal! LOL :P
Even though I do shop at REI...lol This state needs more hiking/backpacking/sporting goods stores than the ones with an agenda.

Actually, it was the guy at the Yamaha dealership that told me all about the hiking club I belong to…and it just so happens that several of the club members own ATV’s….funny how things work out like that… :D

Thanks for askin' Mr Bill!! :D

Pacific Crest Trail is one....but you can ride your ATV around it, near Gold Lake.

Yeah, these are trail areas that are legally off-limits to motorized vehicles.

A short story here....the first hiking club I inquired about a few months back were....how should I put this kindly??? ummm....very radical....to the point when after they found out I had an ATV totally lectured me about the negatives of an ATV...blah, blah, blah....then it came out who they were affiliated with....without mentioning names....total tree huggers!
I had no clue...all I wanted to do was hike  ...sheesh!

They had the audacity and unmitigated gall to tell me that I couldn't do both....???? whatever! Bite me!

A word of caution:
More of the extreme Tree Huggers are on the FBI watch list. Remember that this is the feds and your are guilty till proven innocent. So if they want to they can jack you up for a long time just at whim.
Welcome to the new home land security.

Ok, I'm reading what you said from my standpoint...you mention FBI, "watch list", homeland security....first thing that comes to my mind is 9/11 and terrorism and everything that surrounds that issue.....is that what your talking about?

EDIT:I did my own search....came up with this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Arnold

Learn something new everyday...don't worry, I don't belong to one of "those" clubs...all I wanna do is hike...

See...that's what I do not understand. Why do these people think that recreational activities, need to be mutually exclusive???

If ya wanna hike? Hike.

If ya wanna ride? Ride.

If you wanna motorcross...Motocross.

Moutain bike? That too.

Jeep? Sure.

It's all good....if everyone respects everyone else. When I'm riding and come up on hikers...I slow down. I know I wouldn't want to eat dust.

Just file this under: I don't get it.

Go Ken! I'm with ya. Dam prima donna's. I also understand that some these "organizations" are merely a group of lawyers.

About 15 years ago I was rideing old logging trails on the Nevada side of Hyw 4. I was on a 3 wheeler and my buddy was on a trail 90. We were a good 5 miles from the nearest pavement and just exploreing. We had not crossed any fences or gone off trail. We had only climbed a berm at the begining of the trail. My buddy was out front and when I came around a turn he was pulling away form some backpacker. This guy looked pissed! I slowed way down as not to stir up dust as I went by. This guy starts yealling at me that I had no right to be there bla bla bla. I catch up with my buddy and ask him what happend. He said the guy was shakeing his walking stick at him and yealling a bunch of crap about us breaking the law bla bla bla. I wanted to go back and kick his ass because we had just as much right to be there as he did. We were on a cut road, mind you it was a abandond logging road but it was not over grown with new sapplings yet. That night we were looking at the map and figureing out where we had gone (pre GPS) Oh Shit....... We were on the Pacific Crest Trail. OOPS! For what it's worth we never saw any signs.

PCT....

Who fricken cares..... If it's a logging road, Semi's weigh more than quads.... and as far as I'm concerned if a fricken guy can walk down a dirt road why can't we drive down same. It's a road for gods sake.....

It only takes one asshole on a quad and instantly we are all assholes regaurdless of how 99% of us act. I do my best to respect the right of way of everyone else just so as to not piss anyone off. I'm sure I have pissed someone off at one time or another, totally unintentional, but plough a foot of snow out of his driveway so his wife can get her 2wd suv in the garage and he's all smiles.(yes I have a tree hugger across the street LOL). Thats what pisses me off...If it suits them then everyone should be happy or better off....I think most "activist" suffer from some type of tunnel vision.

You know...I saw a bumper sticker in Granite Bay a couple months ago (GB is pretty conservative).

It said "Piss Off a Liberal. Work Hard and have fun"

And I hate to say...but it's very true to certain extent. Many of these "activists"...are VERY ANGRY. They really are angry...and they really do hate "us"...and by us, I don't mean just ATV riders...but really...anyone out enjoying whatever, differently than them.
