Yup Angelo, this is the most snow we've had since moving up here in 1997. Lots more is on the way.

I would be out powder skiing today but I had to spend all morning blowing snow off the deck, shoveling out the garage doors, and now standing by for emergency rescue operations in case my wife can't make it back home (she ran down to the store). Check out the street, if that overhang falls the road will be closed again:

Image

More overhangs in the driveway, our snow clearing guy can't reach that high with his equipment:

Heck, we can barely get out the front door to the driveway:

I had to shovel all of that because my front-deck snow blower is out of commission. :(

Reminds me of 1982. Only difference there was that much by Jan 7.

"back in '82 I could throw a pigskin a quarter mile. If only the coach had kept me in, we'd have been state champions for sure" - Uncle Rico

That's a b-load of snow.

I'm driving to Death Valley on Saturday via 395. Should be a scenic drive.

Death Valley is sounding real good to me right about now! We've got a lot more snow coming (predicting another 5 feet this week) so we might have a shot at beating 1982. Be careful, Brian. Back in our last big snow year this tourist drove up to check it out for himself:

Image

That's not the tourist, that's my friend pointing and laughing at the dumb ass's car that he abandoned in the middle of the road. The heroic road crew finally got the car out and the road opened a few days later:

Image

My wife ran into the trash guys further down the hill this morning, where there is barely any snow:

Image

One of the houses down there looks like a snow cave:

Image

Could be worse, you could be my neighbor across the street. You guys will love this: he has a fixed winch installed between his garage doors. He literally winches himself up and down his driveway:

Image

My driveway isn't nearly as bad. You'd have to be a total dufus to get stuck in it. Uh.... hey Ken do you remember when you stopped by to show me your tracks?

LOL, my grizzlies are definitely pissed at me. The solar panel for their battery maintainer is in the window, and the window ain't getting a lot of sun right now. No juice, no booze, no babes... nuttin.

Tracks would be cool but I don't think they could handle this much snow. Check out RenoDeano's thread, he got stuck in about 1/2 as much snow.

I don't know what the official average depth would be. Usually there is maybe 7-9 feet of packed snow on the ground this time of year. Of course we get a lot more than that if you count how much falls each time. Here is what they are saying about Northstar and we seem to pick up at least as much snow as they report from each storm:
Northstar picked up another 18 inches in the past 24 hours bringing the weekend storm total to over 4 feet up top and the 8 day total to 8 feet. Northstar is now at 564 inches on the season which is 161% of the annual average. We could possibly break 600 inches by this time next Monday which is crazy. This could be the biggest winter since 1982-83 and after that we have to go back to 1951-52.
I'm so screwed up here now that I am actually cheering for more snow: let's break the record! YaHOOOOOO!!!!

GG you need to add one more thing to the stable , A SNOWMOBILE.

I love the smell of gasoline on a frozen morning.

You're right! But my wife vetoed the idea.

Fortunately my neighbor across the street has several and he'd probably loan me one in an emergency. We're not supposed to ride them around here since we have to cross a few hundred yards of property owned by the housing association before we hit the National Forest up on top of the ridge. In big storms my neighbor does it anyway since he knows no one can get up the road to bust him. He can go from his house all the way to Hwy 49 without needing to trailer. :)

P.S. - It is snowing again, we've already picked up about another foot this morning.
