Our road's snow bank and overhang made the local newspaper. The little jeep in their story's photo (below) is parked where I was standing and holding up the shovel in the picture above. The tree on the left edge of the photo is next to my front deck.

Old news, that snow bank is way higher with all the fresh snow. #-o

It keeps getting worse! This morning a truck was stuck in the road, in the same place as the jeep and the other car from years ago. They had a front loader working up here for about an hour to dig and pull him out.

These photos are from this morning. The driveway guy hasn't been by yet, thanks to the dumbshit who got stuck and closed the road. When the overhanging chunk breaks loose it is gonna suck. The powder that I walked through to get the picture is knee-deep. The wind made a bare spot right in front of the garage doors, which was nice, will be easy to dig them out:

Image

It took a lot of shovelling to re-open the front deck and a path into the unplowed driveway. Overnight the snow had drifted into my dug-out path and was about 3 feet high, even under the roof and on the deck:

Image

Some odd drifts on and behind the back deck this morning. My dog Riley went into action before I could fire up the snowblower for my morning pass:

You know its cold when you have to break out the hand held propane torch just to defrost the toilet paper...

Im kinda supprised you havent lost power... and also that you are still able to upload online!

Any "end in sight" for this next series of storms?

Thanks for all the pics! Keep 'em comming so we know you havent been completely burried and frozen!

I wonder how long your snow will stick around this year for.

ROFL! Great line, I've got to remember that one. =D>

They say the storm should end on Sunday or Monday. I can't wait. Power has been pretty solid, it blinked out for about 20 minutes yesterday then came back on. Thank God we have a local-government owned and operated power company and not those evil PG&E guys.

Here is the latest report from our driveway clearing guy:
I just tried to respond to an emergency call and could not get 100 feet on Skislope. We are snowed in, likely until the town can get its giant snow blower up here.
Things ain't good, I imagine they are probably just trying to keep the main streets and highways open in town, so we're likely to be stuck up here for a few days more at least. I'll post some more pictures later, as soon as I can figure out which door I want to attack with the shovel this morning so that I can actually get out and take some.

Gee, so now green power is good!

I love to hate PG&E, but the folks in the field are great people. We used to get big glitches and outages every time there was a storm, but it's been very stable for the past few years. The neighbors say that the utility rebuilt the feed on the other side of the freeway for quite a ways, eliminating the swaying wires and whatnot. It's been pretty good - only one outage for 1.5 hours this season - and that was a very large outage - I could not see any lights anywhere from here during that one.

As for your frozen Grizzlys, we'll have to lend you some rides for the first part of the summer! :-)

That's great but where in the hell are we going to ride them? How big is your yard? :P

It's good that you have good power but I hear that PG&E isn't doing so well over in the Hwy 50 area. One of our employees is over in Pollack Pines and he was out for a week earlier this year. He runs a bunch of our development servers from our house so we had paid for a nice backup generator that runs off of propane so he wouldn't run out of gas. He ran his propane tank dry and went off the air after about 5 days. I guess we should have gotten him TWO propane tanks. #-o

Somebody call USGS, they need to modify the topo maps. A brand new mountain (Mt. Grizzly) has appeared behind my house:

Here is the Matterhorn, note the resemblance:

Image

Riley and I went out to establish a base camp for a future assault on the mountain. An avalanche started on the west slope and Riley had to make a run for it:

Image

I went after it with the snow thrower but was barely able to make a dent:

Image

I have plenty of supplies ready to move out to base camp for another assault on the mountain as soon as the weather clears: :D

Well I mentioned I wanted to run up there... be careful what you wish for..

Just got a new work house up there, I have about 36 hours left to get up there and "see" if it’s occupied.

Lol GG is that your emergency 72 hour supply there?

I've got you covered. I have 4.5 months of yummy emergency food for 2 people, so with you, we ought to at least have 2 weeks worth. :P

Dude, seriously, stay the fark away from up here until Sunday or maybe tomorrow if we get lucky. Right now it is white-out conditions and I-80 is still closed anyway. See here:
